""Few colors drive men to kill.
Some have said that one see’s red (a story for another day!) but in truth, it was when man first glimpsed the shimmer of a piece of gold that he desired to kill. Thousands upon thousands of lives have been lost; sacrificed in the name of that most precious metal. In reality there are elements more useful and powerful, but never has a person been said to be “worth his weight” in Plutonium.
Warmth from the Sun radiates across the drifting sands; an apple tossed from the hand of a god; an unholy symbol of mankind’s internal decay! Gold adorns the most beautiful bodies; it is the very substance of the most sacred relics! An entire city was rumored to be gold, and who knows how many wandered unto death within those deep wooded jungles, frantically searching for that deadly fortune. Civilizations of old subsided upon its cultivation and praise, trading it for goods and paying it as tribute. No King was immune from suffering under Gold’s weighty cost. Who has not heard of the total annihilation a gold coin could bring?
Gasoline, arguably the best get-rich-quick scheme of all time, is called liquid gold. Driven to madness in the wilderness, generations of adventurers lost their livelihoods and their minds shin deep in freezing water, sifting endlessly for a fleck of Gold!
Not Blue! Not Green! Not White! But Gold!
Attila the Hun marched across Asia and the known world, conquering in the name of his Golden Horde. The Ten Commandments, “God’s word to man”, nests in an Arc of pure Gold.
You’d be lucky to have a touch of Midas these days; you especially. Think! There is nothing worth seeing that isn’t worth seeing gilded; more valuable to the wallet and the eyes! A prize of anything you wished!
…Perhaps you are right, what, with your deeper in-sight. It would be far too easy to join the ranks damned by Gold. When next you think of Gold, think not of that cursed metal, but instead, picture your happiest day. Think of the weather that day, of the laughs you had, and the people you loved. When next you consider how wealthy you are, these Golden thoughts will make you realize that nothing is worth more than the time (times) we have (had).
